Little Andries was born on the 8th of January 2017 via an emergency Caesarean Section after they noticed that his heart stopped beating at times whilst his mommy was still pregnant with him. At birth the umbilical cord was wrapped two times around his neck. He was immediately admitted to the Neonatal ICU at Robinson Hospital but they could not pay a deposit and the hospital threatened to move him to a government hospital where he surely would not have received the necessary care.
He spent more than 3 weeks in the Neonatal ICU as his lungs weren't fully developed and he also had difficulty sucking and swallowing.
At 11:30 pm on the 30th of January baby Andries was transferred from the Robinson Private Hospital to the Jusaf Dadoo Hospital but they would not accept him there. After 2am they eventually admitted him. His mommy went there early the following morning as she could not stay with him and they advised that they will be transferring him to the Rahima Moosa Mother And Child Hospital in Johannesburg. At 6pm the transfer took place.
They handled him very well at the Rahima Moosa Mother And Child Hospital and taught him how to suck and swallow and on the 6th of February he was discharged. He is doing well and is drinking all his milk.
The parents contacted Child Medi Organisation because they needed funds. Child Medi raised R 3 350.00 to date and still needs more funds to at least pay 1 of his doctor's bills.
